"I'd say play both. The first one is classic and serious, the new one has an unprecedented tone shift and some other things I haven't seen yet. The enemy HP is just right, I never felt pushed back. Progress is nicely chaptered with a final pitchfork of crucial and optional. Mostly the game plays smooth but with occasional frequent things to fix which I'd apply. Pickups are good except from the revolver, I was cautious for 5 hours then lost focus for 1 second and I was left with 80 deagle bullets denying all my effort. I'd also add more flares in the cave, it's somehow a trend builders spam pickups but the only one they don't spam is flares, like if something bad was supposed to happen if one too many was included. Despite of the level having tons of water, the swimming animation has been nerfed with a delay, which results in some extra dying - to beat the water spikes, I swam into a wall to gain some initial speed because I didn't bother to do it the normal way as the timing was way off - but mostly this delay just made my head wonder what is happening and why Lara isn't responding. Voice lines are too low, without the subs I wouldn't understand a lot, was a single issue in Barbie but now it became too frequent. Also we get two musical pieces playing together very often, again something which wasn't so striking in Shabab's earlier levels. I'm sure some lagging can be fixed as well - occuring in the narrow canyon instead of the big resort area, it indicates something active out of sight which can be switched off to gain FPS, and whatever it is it stays on later since the final visit of the big area lags even though the first visit did not. The final result is a work of art revamped with even more art, but I think it's worth giving it version 3." - DJ Full (22-May-2025)
"What I Am Neutral About
  • I like the variety of gameplay, but after slipping into into the ruins, I would have liked a chance to return to the village and find the rest of the eggs that I missed. I didn't realize it was a point of no return.
What I Liked
  • There are 20 eggs scattered about the village for those who are in a scavanger hunt mood.
  • The ruins have quite a few traps to dodge, as well as a variety of beasts that stand in Lara's way.
  • The ruins also have a couple of puzzles to solve, from aligning gears to measuring water to pour into scales.
  • The environments in both the town and temple areas are very impressive. Great sense of architecture and good use of lighting to make the visuals pop.
Time: 2 hours 11 minutes | Difficulty: Hard | Rating: 9.5/10 - Excellent" - JesseG (12-May-2025)
"I was amazed at the amount of gameplay that can be packed into a single level. The first and much shorter section involves a search for 20 Easter eggs scattered through an idyllic village, but the main portion takes place in an extended temple area that took me hours to complete. The surroundings and lighting are impeccable, which greatly boosted my enjoyment of the playing experience. New moves are required, but they're well documented and not difficult to master (although that timed sequence with the swingpoles did me in and forced me to resort to a savegame). Enemies are few and far between until near the end, and it seemed to me that much more firepower was provided than is necessary. The need for flares was almost nonexistent, but plenty of them are provided as well. I never did figure out what those strange pickups in the early going (familiar froot juice and extra potent ouzo) were all about, but I had no occasion or reason to give them a test run. I would classify the difficulty level as challenging, because knowing what to do and when to do it was frequently a matter of guesswork on my part. I find little to fault in this Easter offering and can recommend it wholeheartedly." - Phil (02-May-2025)
"What a splendid addition to the Easter Calendar, and one that kept me enjoyably occupied for longer than I expected. Everything about this creation was clearly a labour of love for the builder, from the sumptuous surroundings and the charming custom characters, right down to the constantly engaging gameplay. The comparatively brief Easter Egg hunt in the first section is merely a tune-up to the thought-provoking part within the temple where the rest of the action takes place. There's plenty of opportunity to use Lara's "new" moves, they're explained well in the manual and none of the sequences are too convoluted, plus there's some enjoyable timed runs to accomplish. Enemies only make an appearance when you're more than halfway through, so you should have more than enough supplies to deal with them by then. The only thing I didn't particularly care for was Lara's slightly messed up swimming animation, which often resulted in her getting killed by spike traps unless I angled her correctly. Still, this comes with my highest recommendations for a job well done." - Ryan (02-May-2025)
